After our successful initial run out and test at Bilsterberg with Wolfgang Weber, we were ready to take the car from the "mini Nurburgring" to the real deal, this time to be piloted by the "Wizard of Nur", Misha Charoudin.
We had learned a lot from the initial test, and Michelin were ready to help move our testing in to "Maximum track attack" mode, providing a matching "max rubber" setup of Michelin CUP 2 track focussed tyres in a huge 295/30/20 for the front axle and 315/30/20 on the rear of the Velgen VF5 20" lightweight wheels we were using. The track rubber was also going to be backed up by installing Steeda's own ground breaking "Magneride Controller" deploying a specific software upgrade to Fords fantastic adaptive magnetic dampers, tuned for our incredible Dual Rate Magneride springs. This would help absorb the huge compressions and kerbs of the legendary "Green Hell" and also help test what had been the chassis limit as described by Wolfgang, who said that with CUP rubber, the dampers ran out of damping control in extreme situations, like the high speed compressions that Bilsterberg (and even more so the Nurburgring) would provide. The good news was, the unlike our Bilsterberg day, the weather was gorgeous! The bad news was, it was bank holiday Monday and the ring was PACKED! The whole of Europe had come to play at the ring, in what was the first nice weather weekend of the season so far. So traffic was going to be inevitable, and so was "incidents"... Fingers crossed!
We unloaded the trailer, met up with Misha, and after a short prep and chat, Jorg headed out for an initial lap for Misha to get a feel of the car and to bring the tyres up to temperature. He would then come back in, we would lower the pressure of the now hot tyres and then attempt a proper lap, but with Steeda Robbie in the passenger side.
As well as the massive Michelin tyres and the Steeda Magneride controller, we had one other important upgrade. Anti carsickness chewing gun! Nervous much?
Chewing frantically, we headed out to see how the car performed, and what Misha thought.....
Enjoy the video!
We think the title gives it away a bit haha! Massive thanks to Misha and the Apex team for making us feel so welcome and giving us such a great experience.
Now we think YOU should experience your very own Steeda Q Series Mustang! Contact us to buy one while you still can.... or convert your existing Mach 1 or GT to a Steeda Q767 or Q500!
